About Shaulene Wright

Shaulene Marie Wright (born July 14, 1989) is an American urban gardening consultant and meditation facilitator based in Brooklyn, New York. She is known for her work in small-space gardening, composting initiatives, and mindfulness practice.

Wright grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, in a family that encouraged both creativity and environmental care. Her father worked for the NYC Parks Department and introduced her to plants, while her mother was an art teacher. She attended P.S. 289 and Clara Barton High School, where she participated in environmental activities and gardening projects.

She studied liberal arts at Kingsborough Community College, completing an associate degree in 2009 with a focus on environmental studies. She later earned a certificate in urban horticulture from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where she also volunteered in community garden programs. In 2018, she completed a mindfulness meditation teacher training program at the New York Insight Meditation Center.

Wright’s early employment included positions at The Greenhouse Nursery in Brooklyn and Natural Harvest Market, where she managed the plant and wellness section. In 2014, she began freelance work as an urban gardening consultant, designing and maintaining rooftop and balcony gardens. She also conducts workshops on soil health, composting, and container gardening.

Since 2018, Wright has worked part-time as a meditation facilitator at Lotus Wellness Studio in Brooklyn. She leads small group meditation sessions and coordinates seasonal events combining gardening and mindfulness. She received a Community Greening Award from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in 2018 and has been recognized by her local community board for composting initiatives.
