Happy Hanukkah: The Greatest Jewish Sports Stars of All Time

Ron Mix is featured among the greatest Jewish sports stars of all time. An eight-time AFL All-Star offensive tackle, Mix was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979 as one of the first two AFL players to be so honored. After football, he became a member of the National Jewish Museum Sports Hall of Fame and practiced law in San Diego.

Chargers' Success in the 1960s Case of Having the Right Mix

Ron Mix, one of three Charger alumni in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, recalls that the highlight of his career occurred when Joe Namath and the Jets beat the Colts in Super Bowl III, validating the careers of all AFL players. Mix, an eight-time all-star offensive tackle in the AFL during the '60s, was frustrated by the NFL's arrogant attitude toward the AFL until that game put the two leagues on the same level.

That game (Super Bowl III) was my biggest thrill. When the Jets won, it validated the careers of all of us in the AFL. Everybody knew then that the AFL was a major league.

In 2002, he launched the Law Offices of Ron Mix in San Diego, which became one of the largest practices in this niche field.
