Layman is the founder of Sown Strategies, a consulting firm that works on public relations, land-use planning, and community engagement for renewable energy projects. She also serves as Senior Public Relations Manager at ESA, where she leads communication strategies for sustainable energy initiatives.

Layman’s career began with roles at advocacy organizations, including Working America and the Sierra Club, where she gained experience managing grassroots campaigns centered on environmental and energy policy. These roles developed her ability to navigate complex issues and connect with diverse audiences, laying the groundwork for her expertise in public relations and community engagement.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Business from Muskingum College and later pursued an MBA after taking time off to raise her two children. This combination of education and real-world experience equipped her with the strategic skills to advance in the renewable energy and public relations sectors.

In addition to her professional work, Layman has been actively involved in her community as a Girl Scout troop leader and as a board member of CHOICE, a nonprofit supporting homebirth options.
