Leslie Nelson is a private equity executive and strategic advisor based in New Jersey. He has over 25 years of experience in finance, infrastructure, and business leadership, with a focus on African markets. His career includes roles in investment banking, energy, and private equity.
Nelson began his career as an analyst at Merrill Lynch, then worked as a senior associate at UBS. He later joined SES Americom in New Jersey, where he led business development for satellite and telecom services. In 2007, he joined GE Capital as a vice president, focusing on leverage finance and private equity deals.
He later transitioned to GE’s infrastructure division, becoming West Africa Regional Executive and then Regional CEO for GE’s $1 billion power business in Africa. He also served as Country CEO for Ghana, overseeing projects in power, oil and gas, healthcare, and aviation.
From 2018 to 2020, Nelson was Managing Director for Africa at New Fortress Energy. He was part of the executive team during the company’s public listing in 2019. In 2021, he founded an energy transition development platform focused on expanding clean and affordable power access in Africa. The platform formed a joint venture with a leading African investment firm in 2023.
Nelson currently advises the Africa Infra Fund and serves on multiple corporate and nonprofit boards. He holds degrees from the University of Ghana and NYU Stern School of Business. He also supports education initiatives for underserved students in Ghana through scholarships and mentoring.
