About Kakhi Jordania
Kakhi Giorgi Jordania is a Georgian master falconer, conservationist, and author. He is the founder and director of the Caucasus Raptor Conservation Initiative in Tbilisi. His work focuses on raptor rehabilitation, field research, and public education in Georgia and the wider Caucasus.
Jordania began training at age fourteen under master falconer Temur Mamaladze in Dedoplistskaro. His apprenticeship covered handling of saker falcons and steppe eagles, equipment making, lure work, and weight management. Between 2000 and 2004 he studied regional practices in Mongolia, Iran, and Central Asia. He observed Kazakh eagle hunters in Bayan Ölgii, visited hood makers in Isfahan, and joined field studies on migration corridors.
He founded CRCI in 2011. The program has rescued and rehabilitated more than 400 raptors. It operates School of the Eagle, a curriculum that introduces students to species identification, ecology, and the history of Georgian falconry. CRCI launched satellite telemetry in 2016 to track migratory routes into Turkey and the Arabian Peninsula.
Jordania speaks at cultural festivals and conservation forums in Europe and the Middle East. His advocacy supported recognition efforts for falconry within global intangible cultural heritage frameworks. He has lectured at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and at the Caucasus Wildlife Research Institute.
He is the author of Wings of the Caucasus, a memoir and cultural history of Georgian falconry. The book has been translated into several languages. He created the documentary mini series Feathers of the Wind for Georgian Public Broadcasting.
Jordania lives in Mukhrani with his family. Their home includes a small rehabilitation aviary used for short term care and conditioning.
