His father worked as a firefighter, paramedic, general contractor, and builder, often bringing Joseph and his brother to job sites where they learned construction work from a young age. Leggs had tools in his hands by the time he was eight years old, and by ten he was using power tools under supervision. The family worked on their own vehicles, providing early exposure to mechanical and machine work. He states that transitioning into mechanic and machine work came easy for him because he had already been around it for so long.

He started his professional apprenticeship during college at a Porsche specialist shop, which marked the beginning of his career in the automotive industry. He has received factory training with Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bentley. His work focuses on engine building, gearbox rebuilding, machining, and high-performance vehicle service. He is based in Escondido, California, and maintains a reputation for attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to quality workmanship.
