About Jeffrey Herter
Jeffrey Herter brings more than fifteen years of experience in investing and operating multifamily properties across the United States. Based in Rye and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Herter serves as Founder, Portfolio Manager, and CRE Developer at JJH Investments, a position he has held since March 2018. He also serves as Principal at Providence Real Properties, LLC.
Herter’s career began in derivatives trading. After graduating from Boston University, he co-founded Cygnus Atratus LLC, a relative-value derivatives trading firm, where he served as Partner, Head Trader, and Portfolio Manager from April 2001 to March 2009. He later founded Herter Capital Management LLC, a concentrated fundamental value long/short equity hedge fund, serving as Founder and Portfolio Manager from January 2013 to May 2015. From June 2015 to March 2018, he served as Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at Guin Financial in Vernon Hills, Illinois, where he held oversight responsibility for over $350 million in AUM.
Currently, Herter focuses on identifying value-add multifamily and adaptive reuse development opportunities. Throughout his career, he has applied analytical thinking and comprehensive research to identify opportunities in individual companies, indices, and ETFs. He has successfully acquired, managed, constructed, and sold value-add multifamily properties for returns in excess of 15% per year.
Herter earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business in 2000. He is a recipient of the Robert W. Sherburne Scholarship and holds memberships in Golden Key National Honor Society, Beta Alpha Psi National Honor Society, Lock Honor Society, and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. He volunteers as a SCORE mentor to small business owners.
