About Dennis Pappas

Dennis Pappas is a landscape architect based in Brooklyn, New York. With over 20 years of experience, he specializes in designing sustainable and community-centered urban spaces. His work includes creating parks, rooftop gardens, and green corridors that balance environmental needs with urban development.

Growing up in Brooklyn, Dennis developed a strong appreciation for green spaces in the city. Trips to Prospect Park and upstate New York inspired his passion for integrating nature into urban life. This interest led him to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University and a Master’s degree in Environmental Design from Columbia University.

Dennis began his career at a boutique Manhattan firm, working on residential and commercial projects. Later, at the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, he managed initiatives that transformed vacant lots into functional green spaces. He currently serves as a Senior Landscape Architect at GreenScape NYC, where his projects include New York City’s first carbon-neutral rooftop garden.

His work often focuses on sustainable design and improving urban resilience. By integrating native plants and green infrastructure, his designs help manage stormwater, reduce heat, and support biodiversity.

Outside of his professional life, Dennis enjoys kayaking, birdwatching, and photography. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, Alex, and their two rescue cats, Ash and Willow. His work reflects a commitment to making urban environments healthier and more livable for communities.
