About David Banach


Dr. David Banach is an infectious disease physician, epidemiologist, and professor based in Connecticut. He currently works at UConn Health as an Associate Professor of Medicine and serves as the Head of Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiologist. He also teaches at Yale School of Public Health as a Lecturer in Epidemiology.

Banach earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Biology from Muhlenberg College. He completed both his MD and MPH at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 2006. He later earned a Master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Research from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency and fellowship training.

Banach has worked in the field of infectious diseases for nearly two decades. His clinical work focuses on treating infections in both hospital and outpatient settings. In his leadership role, he oversees infection control policies and strategies at UConn John Dempsey Hospital. He also plays a role in guiding public health responses at the state level.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Banach served as co-chair of the scientific advisory group for the Governor of Connecticut. He is the past president of the Connecticut Infectious Diseases Society and a member of several state health committees.

He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. His research areas include healthcare-associated infections, antibiotic use, and infection prevention. Banach is also active in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents and has received several teaching awards for his work in medical education.
