About Dan Champ
Dan Champ has worked as a teacher in the Rocklin Unified School District since 1998, teaching English Language Arts and History. He has coached cross country, softball, and girls' and boys' volleyball, and served as ASB (student government) advisor from 2015 to 2024. He has coordinated the East Coast Trip since 2001 and operated student educational and cultural tours for over 20 years to destinations including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Europe, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia. In 2024, he founded Champ Tours, a student travel company. After 25 years of teaching 8th grade U.S. History, he is currently transitioning to teaching 7th grade World History and Language Arts.
Champ grew up in Roseville, California, a middle-class suburb of Sacramento. His father, Art, worked as a Civil Engineer for the federal government throughout his career, while his mother, Marilyn, was a homemaker who later worked part-time as a school aide. He participated in various sports including soccer, baseball, and competitive swimming with the Roseville Sugarbears swim team. In fifth grade, he began playing trumpet, and music became central to his youth. He performed in marching, concert, jazz, and pep bands throughout middle and high school, and founded his own Dixieland band that performed at the Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee for several years.
Champ states that Joanna Cameron, who ran most of his student tours in his early career, was instrumental in his development in the student travel industry. He describes his leadership philosophy as centered on knowing and seeing people where they are and serving them the best you can. He recently expanded his Broadway Experience itinerary, originally designed for high school theater groups, to serve senior travelers. Working with the Sun City Roseville Travel Club, he welcomed 23 senior travelers, including three participants aged 86, on the inaugural Broadway Experience.
