About Barry Nixon

Barry “Baz” Nixon is a nonprofit grant consultant based in Colorado Springs. He is the founder of Blue Sky Grant Services, LLC. Nixon previously served more than 20 years in the United States Air Force as a logistics and contracting officer.

In the Air Force, he managed supply chains, contracts, and large teams. His work supported combat operations during the War on Terror. He also coordinated humanitarian aid after natural disasters, including the 2004 Sumatra earthquake and tsunami.

After retiring from military service, Nixon entered the nonprofit sector. He established Blue Sky Grant Services to help organizations plan funding, write proposals, and manage compliance. He has developed more than 360 proposals. Reported awards tied to his work exceed 12 million dollars across federal, state, and private funders.

Nixon’s clients focus on veteran care, justice reintegration, youth services, and animal welfare. Program areas include equine assisted therapy, creative arts therapy, and services for justice involved veterans. His consulting also covers reporting systems, outcome metrics, and staff training on funder requirements.

Nixon completed graduate level study in organizational management, counseling, and public administration. He holds certifications in nonprofit management and grant writing. He is certified in Mental Health First Aid and trained in motivational interviewing. He has taught as an adjunct instructor at the United States Air Force Academy and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He has advised the School of Public Service at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

Nixon’s work centers on building capacity for mission driven programs. His focus is on clear plans, measurable results, and sustainable operations.
