Rad earned a Bachelor of Science and Engineering in mechanical engineering from Princeton University, graduating magna cum laude. He received an NIH F32 NRSA grant and completed a Ph.D. in immunology at the University of London, where his research focused on how cancer cells interact with the immune system.

He entered plastic and reconstructive surgery training at Johns Hopkins in 2003 and completed the program in 2009. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2009 as Assistant Professor and Director of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and served in that role until 2013. His clinical work includes facial aesthetic surgery and microvascular reconstructive surgery.

Rad has performed more than 3,000 facelifts using deep-plane and endoscopic techniques developed over two decades of surgical experience. He has participated in volunteer surgical work with Operation Smile and The Healing Hands Foundation, including a trip to Jolo, Philippines in 2009, where he helped provide care for children with cleft lip and cleft palate. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
